Groundhogs, Weather, and Changing Seasons

I read yesterday that Punxatawney Phil saw his shadow and predicted 6 more weeks of winter here in the good old US of A.  I also read that Phil's contemporaries all disagreed with him and predicted an early Spring.  Personally, I hope Phil's wrong and I'll explain why.

First and foremost, I hope for an early Spring because my kids can't seem to avoid getting practically every cold and flu known to man or beast.  Ashley and I are currently dealing with another round of wee berns barfing.  Now obviously, the primary reason this sucks is because I hate seeing my kids sick or hurt.  However, the other major component I dislike is the pooping and puking, and the associated smells, cleanup, etc.  The sooner Spring comes, the sooner my kids start feeling well consistently.

Secondly, I'd like Spring to show up sooner rather than later because I enjoy the warmer weather, the wind, and the rain that come with Spring.  Plus I'd like to get started planting some flowers and such in my yard.  The only mildly sad part about that is that a lot of what I'd really like to plant requires full sun, and there's only one relatively small spot in my backyard that has that.

Anyway, wish us luck, and pray that Punxatawney Phil is wrong this year.
